Why Cold Chain Equipment ?

Why Cold Chain Equipment are essential?

The year 2020 has been a drastically challenging one all over the world. We are amidst a pandemic and working on ways to battle it. Recently, a few vaccines have been developed in order to enhance immunity against the virus. Now, it is upon us, as citizens of the world, to make sure everyone is protected from this threat by ensuring vaccination accessibility for all regions and sections of the globe.

To properly transport these vaccines, maintaining the optimal conditions throughout the duration of transportation and storage cannot be compromised upon for maximized efficacy of the vaccine.

Why not ordinary household refrigerators?

The specialized function of our cold chain equipment is to provide the vaccines with the perfect temperature range so that they can be stored till application. There is a clear need for certain specific factors to be optimized here. So, for instance, vaccines cannot be stored in a household refrigerator or using a similar commonly available cooling mechanism. Refrigerators or rudimentary portable cooling boxes (eg-iceboxes) cannot provide the controlled conditions necessary for continued effectiveness.

How to choose right cold box/ vaccine carrier

While choosing a vaccine carrier or a cold box you must consider a few salient aspects so that you are able to choose an option that is most appropriate for your usage from the array we offer. First off, the vaccine that is to be stored/transported must be considered, since vaccines have different shelf lives and optimal temperature ranges. The quantity to be delivered and the duration of transportation must be kept in mind. Your specific requirement can be met and the most suitable carrier can easily be selected in this way.

Each box or vaccine carrier has its own cold life depending upon its size and the number of high-grade ice packs applied. Our product range offers four types of long cold boxes and two types of long vaccine carriers with a cold life up to 96 hours, as well as one short cold box and one short vaccine carrier with a cold life of 48 hours. Each box has its own capacity. The minimum capacity available, that is for the short-type vaccine carrier, is 0.9 litres. The maximum capacity available is that of the long cold box: 22.5 litres.

What is the material they are made of and what’s the capacity?

The vaccine carriers’ exterior is composed of HDPE (High-Density Polythene), a durable and lightweight material, and the interior walls are made of HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) to ensure rigidity, durability, and strong impact resistance. These are ideally suited materials for a vaccine carrier. The cold box’s exterior and interior are both made up LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polythene). The weight of the boxes when fully loaded varies from 2.27 kgs to 48.87 kgs. The products keep the vaccines adequately cold for 21.5 hours – 140 hours at 43 degrees Celsius if kept sealed. The ice packs are made of HDPE (High-Density Polythene, a chemical- and moisture-resistant high quality material) and are available with capacities ranging from 0.3 litres to 0.6 litres. With the combined efficiency of these three products, we acquire the ability to not only transport vaccines over longer distances in hassle-free manner, but also to store them for longer durations without compromising on their efficiency, and so, contribute to the combined human effort against the virus.
